I have referred to Learning Times before and the work by Jonathan Finkelstein, well, I’m doing so again!

Jonathan Finkelstein, CSTP
Facilitator, Author, Learning in Real Time
Two points. Firstly, Jonathan, in his most recent RealTime Minute, used the analogy of the dashboard in your car to discuss aspects of “driving” your online sessions. Take a look here, on Jonathan’s blog.
Secondly, Jonathan is running two virtual workshops (via Learning Times) on online facilitation. So, if you have some Learnscope money available, you might like to sign up to one of Jonathan’s workshops in July or August!

This is Helen. If you have yet to meet Helen who works out of the FLS office at CIT Southside, then you may also need to update your knowledge and awareness about Toolboxes!
The audio below is a short discussion between myself (Marg) and Helen at a recent Framework Toolboxes national meeting held in Melbourne, where all Champs across the country got together for two days of workshops, talk and sharing.

Flexible Learning Solutions PD Activities information for 2007 are now available.
All workshops will be on Wednesday mornings (except for the first one on Feb 2nd which is a Friday) from 0930 – 1200 and are held on the CIT Southside campus. Places are limited so book in early to avoid disappointment (for CIT staff only).
We’ve also done a little bit of a revamp and update to our OTN PD site as well.
Dive in and take a look!
Happy Friday.

Happy New Year everyone and here’s to a positive and productive 2007 . . . I hope this year brings much to you and your e-learning efforts
Towards the end of last year, we held our final lunchtime seminar for 2006 at CIT, Southside campus. Judi Martin, a teacher from Library Studies (ably assisted by her colleague Andrew Shiells) led our discussion on the topic of collaborating online. The Library Studies teachers have set up a wiki to encourage students to collaborate on ideas and procedures they are required to learn during their studies.
The following audio is a slightly edited version of the discussion from the seminar. In this audio clip, Judi explains the way the Library Studies wiki is used (using the free service Wikispaces) and shares her hopes and ideas for its continual use with fellow teachers and students.
Judi on wikis (mp3 14MB approx 15 mins)

What key points/observations made by Judi resonate with you? What questions are you left with?
Post your comments and questions using the comments link below.
Other points discussed will be added shortly, such as the new CIT streaming server, along with a new AFLF new practices project product called ARED – stay tuned!

John demonstrates ARED

An attentive audience!
Considering the usual end-of-year rush, thank you to those who attended and contributed to the discussion – I hope you were able to take some thoughts, questions and ideas away with you!
Here’s more about wikis…
- Some simple examples (from Wikispaces)
- What IS a wiki?
- How to use wiki for your projects
- A new wiki-blog (apparently ad free) service on the Web: Netcipia

Nancy White paid us a visit here at CIT, as part of her October Australian speaking tour to talk about building communities online and in particular presented a keynote on Individual/Group using the Three Tensions.
Stephan Schmidt was there and captured some feedback from CIT teachers as well as some great comments by Nancy herself about getting started online, and developing your support networks to continue to work sustainably online.
Click the images below to view some teachers’ comments from the session (Thanks Tom and Julie!)

These are just some of the snippets of the day: what did you learn?
- What were the key messages you took from the day?
- What are you going to do about teaching and learning online now you’ve been to a session by Nancy White?
If you have some further reflections to add, please do so via the comments link at the end of this post!
Note: Nancy also recently published a feature article to the Knowledge Tree eJournal of Learning Innovations on Blogs and Community – a great read!
