CIT remedial massage students in actionSeptember 6 saw our first semester 2 lunchtime seminar series for the Online Teacher Network (OTN) with close to 30 CIT teachers and support staff attending! Thank you to those who could make it, and for those who are keen to join in the OTN discussions this weblog and the associated OTN wiki are places to continue these conversations! :)

Penny Neuendorf who teaches Remedial Massage in Health Sciences led the discussion, where we focused on issues and ideas about engaging students online.

Penny showed a couple of her online subejcts where she is using, e-journals for Field Placement and video demonstrations for other subejcts like Remedial Massage, Lymphatic Drainage, and so on.

Click on the audio links below to hear snippets of the discussion that took place.

Penny Part 1: How can we engage students online? (mp3, approx. 6 mins)

Penny Part 2: Using video (mp3, approx. 2 mins)

Penny Part 3: Types of students (mp3, approx 6 mins)

The questions from the group were varied and poignant. These notes outline some of the questions and comments put to Penny. Some of the questions and comments included:

  • how are we dealing with and monitoring the way we assess students online?
  • in what ways can we provide adequate orientation and support to students using online learning resources and activities?
  • it was observed that in using multimedia formats not only for one group of students but as a resusable resource for ongoing learning and teaching situations.
