Innovative Projects 2005 – Medical Terminology Prefixes & Suffixes

Posted by onlineteachernetwork on April 6, 2006

Justine McDonald – Human Services

Aims :

To provide students with an online resource that will assist them in learning how to break down medical terms and understand medical abbreviations.

Innovation:

Learning medical terminology and medical abbreviations requires the student to perform a lot of memory tasks. Incorporating online learning enabled this subject to become a lot more interactive. Repetition could be incorporated in a more fun and varied capacity for the student by utilising multiple games and activities.

Improvements :

This course was presented in the class room prior to going online. It was limited in it’s delivery time and there was no capacity for students to develop at their own pace. With being online, students can now take their time with this subject and learn at their own speed without feeling pressured to keep up with everyone else.

This program will also be utilised as an ongoing learning site linked to the students clinical placement, enabling them to increase their vocabulary each time they go out to clinical placement.
