OTN @ CIT

Sharing ideas about online teaching and learning at the Canberra Institute of Technology

Accessing the OTN wiki

OK, the first step is to go to the Online Teacher Network wiki at Wikispaces.step 1 to join

You’ll see the above message, if you have not already joined the OTN wiki beforehand.

Why protect the wiki? Well, this wiki contains some CIT content and we aren’t all that keen to violate any copyright. Plus, we hope it provides first-timers to wikis some form of “safety”. . .

. . . and we can always change our minds ;)

At this point, you need to sign up to Wikispaces so that you have your own Wikispaces account. You must do this before you can join the actual OTN wiki.

So, (1) Join wikispaces, then (2) join the OTN wiki…

step 2 to join

If you have an existing Wikispaces account, sign in as you normally would and follow the prompts to join the OTN wiki.

If you are starting from scratch, set up a username and password and include your email address as shown below.

step 3 to join

After this, you will notice that you have ‘onlineteachernetwork’ included under your My Spaces heading in the lefthand menu of you newly created Wikispaces area, as shown below. (You can also set up you own wikispace/s at the same time if you wish!)

step 4 to join

Now you should see the OTN wiki, which looks something like this!

Wiki menu

Once you are joined up to the OTN wiki, you can keep track of wiki updates by setting up the notification feature in the OTN wiki. This way you receive email updates each time the wiki is updated. This is optional. To do this:

  1. Click ‘Recent changes’ (top lefthand menu)
  2. Select the ‘Notify’ tab
  3. Click the ‘Monitor this psace’ button on the page
  4. The email address you used to sign up to Wikispaces is the one used to send you notifications.

Go ahead and check out the different features of the OTN wiki! You can’t break anything, so have a go! ;)

You can always contact us here at FLS if you want to try out some ideas using the wiki, that is if you want to start with a helping hand first off! Go forth and wiki! :)
